Wilsonart UK announce winners of Zenith National Design Competition

* Wilsonart-winners.jpgWilsonart UK in County Durham has announced the winners of its nationwide laminate work surface competition during 2016. Designers and retailers were invited to submit designs that utilised the company's new ultra-thin, solid core Zenith laminate introduced earlier in the year.

Ruby Kiernan, marketing executive for Wilsonart UK explains: "We wanted to highlight the amazing uses for Zenith - it's much more than a straightforward laminate. Retailers and installers can work with it on site to create upstands, water fall end panels, open shelves, pet boxes, tray spaces, all kinds of things.

"The competition was designed to encourage designers to think of laminate as a key part of the kitchen design and not just the final addition. The standard of entries was extremely high and we are all delighted by both the number of entries and the creative approaches shown."

Zenith double-sided laminate is no thicker than a slice of bread and has been specifically designed and manufactured to appeal to forward-thinking designers of custom-made British kitchens and bathrooms. Its extra-black core is completely solid, requires no edging and can be shaped and styled on site.

Available in three convincing textures each mimicking either concrete, granite or wood, Zenith offers a compelling range of design advantages for varying home space applications in all budgets.

1st prize: Gareth Allan, B&Q York Warehouse - £400 worth of Virgin Experience Vouchers. Decor: Topia & Pyla... Gareth has combined two Zenith decors within the space creating a material mix effect also carried through into the dining area. The stepped island unit highlights the distinctive black edge as a feature while providing an effective seating area. The use of external curves and upstands as well as the continuous cladding onto the windowsill shows numerous ways you can use the material creatively to create a bespoke look and feel for every installation.

2nd prize: Krishan Patel, B&Q Hedge End - iPad1. Decor: Pyla... A very good demonstration of how you can incorporate internal and external curves using Zenith worktops, something that cannot be created easily with other worktop materials but is easily achieved with Zenith due to the solid core. The design also showcases how Zenith can be used as a decorative splashback creating design continuity up the wall and removing the need for tiles.

3rd prize: Emma Godfrey, Magnet Corstorphine, Edinburgh - £50 of high street vouchers. Decor: Lave (pictured)... Although Zenith in this design in not displayed as a worksurface it presents the versatility of the material. Zenith can be used not just as a worksurface but for open shelving and framing to create a contrasting statement within the overall kitchen design. This is the perfect example of how you can use the material in many ways.
