Young tilers show their skills

A Skillcase Event, organized by the Olympic Delivery Authority, took place on 10th March at Hackney Community College.

The purpose of the event was to highlight the importance of vocational training in the run up to London 2012, and to raise awareness amongst employers of the high quality construction and engineering talent available.

The trades covered were Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Plastering, Painting and Decorating and Wall & Floor tiling. For the latter, two competitors were selected to produce a mosaic mural depicting the London 2012 Olympic Games. Both competitors are studying Diploma 2 in wall & floor tiling.

Vijay Jadeja from Hackney College and Pawel Golen from Acton College produced their own interpretation of the theme. The winner was Vijay Jadeja but both received a certificate for their achievement from judge, Bob Howard, of Wilson & Wylie Contracts and Chairman of The Tile Association Fixer Training Committee.
