Circle Living wins top award

Circle Living, part of Circle, one of the UK's largest providers of affordable housing, has won a First Time Buyer Award

Outlook Place in Watford, won Most Eco-Aware Project at the First Time Buyer Readers' Awards in London on Friday, and was also runner up in the Best Small Development category.

Designed by award winning PTE Architects and constructed by Inspace Partnerships, Outlook Place enjoys a green setting with mature trees and enticing views. The £4.1 million development has 37 homes for social rent and shared ownership. The majority of the homes are one and two beds. However, nine four-bedroom houses for families have also been built on the site.

Outlook Place complies with the Code for Sustainable Homes and integrates the latest technology with its architecture, resulting in sustainable, contemporary living. The homes were built using a highly thermally efficient pre-insulated light gauge steel external wall system. This was made off site, greatly reducing construction time and site wastage.

To help residents keep their water and heating bills affordable, all of the homes have solar water heating. They also have whole house ventilation and heat recovery systems, which reduce the amount of heat lost through ventilation. This also means that less heat needs to be produced to keep the homes warm.

With a mixture of slate and timber cladding, the homes in Outlook Place blend in with the site's leafy surroundings. They have patio gardens, balconies or terraces, and are positioned so that they appear to nestle amongst the trees. The access roads are small and quiet, a new one-way system has been adopted and the road kept to the northern side of the site.
