David celebrates an incredible 50 years at Ellis Furniture
Earlier this month, bathroom and kitchen furniture specialist Ellis Furniture held a special presentation ceremony at its offices in Huddersfield to celebrate the retirement of long standing employee David Hughes and to honour the valuable contribution David has made to the company over the 50 years he has been there.
David started his career in 1962 at Crown Works as an apprentice cabinet maker. He finished his apprenticeship in 1967 and went on to hold various roles during his 50 years at Ellis Furniture including Supervisor of the Assembly and Fitting Department, Production Manager, Works Manager, Senior Production Manager and Production Director.
As part of the presentation ceremony David received a special 'this is your Ellis life' book containing letters from colleagues past and present, plus letters of congratulations from Huddersfield Town Football Club, the House of Lords, the Mayor of Kirklees, HRH Prince Charles' private secretary, as well as press cuttings from the local press highlighting David's contribution to work, cricket and football events.
"During my 50 years with Ellis Furniture I have witnessed many changes in terms of people, technology, products and customers," he said. "It has been a pleasure to work for a company that embraces change as something necessary and positive. I have learnt a lot from being involved with a business that values and listens to its people, adapts to suit its customers, and invests in its people and its business for the long term.
"I know it is a rare thing for someone to stay with one company for as long as I have, but the 50 years have been rewarding, enjoyable and I've made lots of friends along the way, in fact it seems like only yesterday that I was walking through those doors for the first time."
Thanking David for his long service, Ellis Furniture director, Tom Ellis, said: "David is a true Ellis success story. His vast experience, knowledge, dedication, commitment and consistently positive attitude has been refreshing and has rubbed off on us all. David has always applied himself with passion and enthusiasm and we are honoured and grateful that he chose us as his employer.
"We will never forget David and the legacy he leaves here at Ellis. It has been a real privilege to work alongside him. I know everyone will miss David and we all wish him a long, happy and well-deserved retirement."
David was overwhelmed to receive the commemorative book and thanked everyone for the great effort they had gone to in putting it together.
David now plans to spend his retirement working on some family projects, as well as finding relaxation in the garden and getting out and about walking in the countryside.
