Wickes moves its support centre to Watford
Wickes is moving its Support Centre from Harrow to a new state-of the art facility at Vision House in Watford, bringing its team of 200 employees to the southwest Hertfordshire town. The move represents a high profile investment in the business community in Watford, which was named one of the top 100 UK towns for company growth last year, according to the local Chamber of Commerce.
The 200 people currently based at Wickes' Harrow office are moving eight miles down the road to the Watford site - close enough for almost all to relocate - at the end of January.
Watford Junction is just 10 minutes away from the new site and has both London Underground and National Rail links. The new support centre is less than 40 minutes from the Northampton headquarters of Wickes' parent company, the Travis Perkins Group.
The Travis Perkins Group was awarded Top Employers United Kingdom 2013 certification, as the company offers good career development as well as great training, competitive salaries and benefits - including discounts. Other businesses in the Group include Travis Perkins the builders' merchants, Tile Giant, Toolstation and Keyline.
"Wickes' modern new office facility is not only well-located, but well-equipped and designed to encourage the team based there to work even more collaboratively," says Simon King, Managing Director of Wickes. "The result will be quicker and more responsive support for each one of our Wickes stores - ultimately resulting in better service for our customers. Being closer to the Travis Perkins Group headquarters will also enable more face-to-face collaboration with our leadership team.
"The new site provides a great place for people to work and gives us valuable room to grow, and it's a cost-effective upgrade on the old office. Whilst Wickes offers employees at all levels great career opportunities, the company has always been a fun, exciting place to work, and we're known for our unique family feel. We look forward to becoming an integral part of an active and thriving Watford business community."
Watford Mayor Dorothy Thornhill says of the move: "I am thrilled to welcome Wickes to Watford and delighted that they have chosen us as their new home. We're seeing more and more trusted brands locating to Watford as they recognise the benefits that the town has to offer. This is great news for our local economy and reflects a growing confidence in our town."
