FIRA's FurnitureFootprinter updated and improved

The FurnitureFootprinter is already the premier carbon footprint calculator for the furniture industry and has now been updated to deliver improved results with an ultra-user-friendly design. The online tool, with its useful 'drag and drop' capability, allows all parties within the furniture supply chain to generate and compare carbon footprints for their businesses and products quickly and easily.

Calculating, and reducing, your product's carbon footprints can deliver many benefits, such as:

·         Demonstrating environmental design considerations

·         Delivering cost savings through reduced energy and resource use

·         Driving product differentiation

·         Providing consumer and stakeholder satisfaction

This world-class product has been developed by FIRA in partnership with leading environmental consultants Best Foot Forward.

Improvements made in the latest version of the software include:

·         Improved Report Outputs

·         Updated data and an increase in the number of data types

·         Increased input flexibility to accommodate industry variations in data capture

·         Improved User Interface

·         Increased capacity to compare footprints

The improvements in FurnitureFootprinter coincide with the data collection phase of FIRA's Carbon Footprint Benchmarking Project, which has been very well supported across all furniture sectors. The aim of FIRA's research is to establish sets of industry benchmarks for product carbon footprints, allowing companies and specifiers to understand the environmental impact of the products they are manufacturing, or sourcing, set against the industry average. This research is expected to be beneficial to manufacturers, specifiers and customers alike, and is due to be published early in 2011.
