Revealed: 'Rainfall Showers' and 'Standalone Baths' voted ultimate wish list features for luxury bathrooms

New research conducted by an online bathroom retailer in the UK has revealed the top desirable wish list bathroom features which create the most luxurious bathroom environments.

'Rainfall shower', 'standalone bath' and 'underfloor heating' emerged as the top three, leading the way on the luxurious British bathroom wish list. The survey also found that less than a quarter (23%) of respondents had any of these features in their own home.

The team at Ukbathrooms.com commissioned an independent research company to collect the data. A total of 1,718 UK residents aged 18 and over were polled for the study, which included respondents living in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. All of those polled owned their own home at the time of the survey.

All respondents were initially asked: "What features are on your ultimate wish list to create a luxury bathroom?" When asked to identify all that applied from an extensive list of bathroom features, the following answers emerged as the most popular:

1. Rainfall Shower - 63%
2. Standalone Bath- 51%
3. Underfloor Heating- 37%
4. His & Hers Sinks- 31%
5. Multimedia Systems- 29%

All respondents were then asked to disclose if their current bathrooms featured any of their ultimate luxury wish list items, to which only 23% stated that they did. The remaining 87% stated that they had no luxury features in their bathrooms.

All respondents were then asked to indicate whether they would have paid more for their property if it was equipped a luxury bathroom featuring their wish list items. Two thirds of respondents (68%) stated that they would, with the average increase they would be prepared to pay standing at an additional £7,500.

Peter Gregg, Director of ukBathrooms.com, commented on the results of the research:

"We all dream of luxury, especially when it comes to a bathroom, and our research reveals what the fantasy bathroom consists of for Britons and how much more they would be prepared to pay for a house already featuring one. The little things can really make a difference in your bathroom, whilst making it the ultimate relaxation room.

"An outdated bathroom can be extremely off-putting so it is definitely worth investing a bit of money in updating your bathroom - why not throw in some luxury items while you're there? With clever design, some features can be easier and more cost-effective to include than you might expect."
