BBC DIY SOS donation makes life a little easier for a growing family

* DIY-SOS.jpgFor children, gaining their independence when using the bathroom is an important part of growing up, which is why Geberit was keen to come to the aid of young twins Katie and Emilia Corns when the BBC DIY SOS team put out a call for help.

Supplying a Geberit AquaClean 8000plus Care to the latest Big Build project undertaken by the popular TV show, the manufacturer played a small part in making things easier for the Corns family, from Loughborough.

Cancer survivor Jenny thought that she would never be able to have children and after rounds of fertility treatment and the devastation of giving birth to stillborn twins, Jenny and Mark were blessed with their daughter Abigail, now three. With one more egg on ice, the Corns decided to try to give Abigail a sibling and Jenny became pregnant with identical twins.

In February 2013, Jenny went in to labour suddenly at home. By the time the ambulance arrived, Mark had delivered the twins and both were extremely unwell; Katie was not breathing and Emelia was breech. The twins were diagnosed with Achondraplasia (a form of dwarfism) along with respiratory illnesses and bowing legs.

Adding a two-storey extension on to the Corns' home, the BBC DIY SOS team, with the help of many local tradesmen, created a much-needed downstairs bathroom, fitted with the Geberit AquaClean 8000plus Care. This technologically advanced shower toilet combines the convenience of a warm water wash and a warm air-dryer to leave the user feeling fresh and clean.

This will make it easier for Jenny and Mark to wash the twins, and in time will allow them as children and young adults to attend to their own hygiene.
