KBB 2014 Review - Part 1 The visitor numbers aren’t up yet but we don’t really need them. Reflecting the news regarding the UK economy, the housing market and the fact that more of us are in work than there have been in many a year - kbb 2014, which finished on Wednesday afternoon, was busy, busy, busy. The exhibitors were delighted (not even one grumble – from anyone – apart from the fact that they were tired and had aching feet, legs and backs, or perhaps dry throats from talking so much). Everyone with whom we spoke, said there had been a good mix of all the types of visitors they’d wanted to see and that these visitors had been serious buyers and specifiers, rather than simply being out on a ‘jolly’. They also said that the networking opportunities provided by the event, were invaluable. The visitors we met with were excited too… they were delighted by the innovation and “spoilt for choice” for all their kitchen, bathroom and bedroom needs. All this bodes well for the next kbb Birmingham, which takes place in two years’ time. Do we really have to wait that long… Yours,

I mentioned innovation so perhaps I should kick off this review with a look at the Innovation Awards winners – announced at the show on Monday. With each and every exhibitor able to enter the awards (sponsored by Blum) by displaying an innovation tag on what they felt was their most innovative product, there was an abundance of products for the judges to consider. “This year the kbb exhibitors showcased more innovative products than ever, with each one providing a new and interesting solution,” they said. We saw so many exciting innovations that we felt relieved not to have been charged with selecting the winners, who were: The Global Kitchen Cafe: a perfect place to pause and ponder The Global Kitchen Cafe was a hub of activity. Featuring a fabulous Rot Punkt kitchen and V-ZUG appliances, the area featured demonstrations and cooking challenges as well as food from across the globe. KBB Review Awards 2014 winners announced at landmark 20th ceremony Winners of the kbbreview Awards 2014 were announced at a much anticipated ceremony, held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on Tuesday. The occasion marked a landmark 20 years of the most prestigious awards event in the kitchen and bathroom industry, which are organised by kbbreview magazine.
Winners of the 18 award categories were announced by celebrity host, Al Murray, better known as the Pub Landlord, in front of many of the industry's most well respected names. Guests at the glittering gala ceremony enjoyed a three course meal followed by an evening of dancing and entertainment in the gaming room. A packed seminar programme hit the spot in more ways than one! Visitors were able to visit the seminar theatre for business advice and inspiration in a free, four-day, seminar programme. It also gave the aching feet of those who attended, some much-needed respite! Mobil Turi UK's kitchen: all the way from Italy As one of Italy's largest kitchen manufacturers, Mobil Turi was delighted to be showing at kbb Birmingham 2014, using the event to introduce its collection of Italian kitchens to the UK for the first time. Sensio - lighting up all those dark places... As a market leader of kitchen & bedroom lighting solutions and a company that's established a reputation for developing award-winning, innovative LED lighting solutions of the highest quality, it was only appropriate that Sensio had a strong presence at one of the most prominent trade shows in the industry. This enormous stand (at 105sq.m) showed off the company's lighting innovations a treat, allowing visitors to interact with and understand each concept. We certainly liked what we saw... Sensio showcased its new range of bedroom lighting solutions which feature the pioneering rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery, a concept that's new to the UK lighting market. The battery has a high energy density, allowing it to run for approximately eight months between charges (based on 2.5 minutes usa Bauformat launch a host of exciting new kitchen innovations that stand the test of time 2014 is set to be a year of celebration for Bauformat, with the leading German kitchen manufacturer toasting its 40 years in the UK, a Golden 'M' award and the UK launch of its "Schnell" range at KBB Birmingham. Developed and designed for retailers and the wider trade, Schnell is a versatile collection of 'made to order' German rigid kitchens available for express delivery within 10-15 working days. The aptly named "Schnell" range (meaning quick) offers retailers access to all Burger brand kitchens price group 1 and 2. New Leicht kitchen designs attracted the crowds One seemingly constantly busy stand at the show was that of Leicht, which was showcasing some smart new kitchens, but that didn't stop the company's PR specialist Fenella Taylor from taking us on a tour of the 60sq.m stand to talk us through the new designs, which were on three displays.
On display were the new 2014 Synthia-C/Ceres-C - a handleless kitchen that was shown in the new slightly textured, antique oak colour combined with new Alpine grey and an artic white island. The concentration of colour and material provided a calm, stylish look.
