Monday saw an agreement between European Parliament and Council negotiators on new rules to ensure that small firms no longer face financial problems due to the late payment of bills by public authorities or companies. MEPs also secured important concessions on the general payment and verification periods, the capping of payment periods by public authorities and the interest rate payable if payments are made late. This new legislation updates the existing EU Late Payments Directive. The standard deadline for both public and private sectors to pay a bill for goods or services will now be 30 days. The Commission's initial proposal in practice left the deadline open for debtor and creditor to agree, but Parliament's negotiators succeeded in persuading Member State representatives to accept an EU-wide 30-day rule. The Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialists Association has appointed two new officers at the AGM which was held yesterday at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon. Martin Thomas brings a wealth of experience to the chair as he has been involved with the KBSA for 25 years. During this time he has held the position of national chair and been active on the board on three occasions, most recently as Scotland's Regional Chair. Ripples' Managing Director Paul Crow and Brand Manager Juliet Harris took part in the Bristol Half Marathon earlier this month, taking 2 hrs 14 mins and 2 hrs 5 mins respectively to complete the 20.1km/13.1 mile course. The Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialists Association has presented the inaugural KBSA supplier awards at the 2010 kbbr Kitchen Conference. The awards recognise excellence in those companies that supply products to KBSA retailers and are the first awards of their kind that represent the views of retailers and not a panel of judges. The winners include Neff for best product supplier and Miele for best training provider, while a joint award went to Omega and Mereway Kitchens/Wentworth for best display support.
