EU closes in on contract law for consumers and SMEs

A common European contract law came one step closer to reality last week after MEPs backed proposals by the European Commission to establish an optional EU-wide system. But consumer groups warned that such a scheme would do little to boost cross-border trade and only add to the confusion faced by businesses and shoppers alike.

Introducing an EU contract law and a possible civil code is an ambitious long-term goal for supporters of closer European integration, as it is expected to make the EU's single market genuinely borderless, reports EurActiv.

Atag's new gas hobs have digital timers

The digital timers featured on the HG9611MDB gas on glass hob, and the HG1111MDB panoramic gas on glass hob, help to make cooking even more convenient and efficient. The consumer can use the timers to programme the desired cooking time, or keep an eye on the elapsed time. Once the specified cooking period has completed, the burner automatically turns off, preventing burning of food or overflowing pans.

Appliance recycling firm fined after worker injured

A worker was injured by a falling stack of cookers and washing machines at one of the UK's largest electrical equipment recycle firms.

Environcom England recycles waste electrical equipment for some of the biggest electrical retailers in the country, but Grantham Magistrates' Court heard how a Polish agency worker suffered bruising to his back and chest after an unsafe stack of appliances fell on him.

Next generation of home-grown talent nurtured with student design competition

* CP-Group-students.jpgTile manufacturer and distributor, the CP Group, has been searching for the next generation of home-grown talent recently, undertaking a student design project in collaboration with the University of Huddersfield.

In a bid to discover new talent and further relationships with the University, a six week design project was launched for 29 first year students all studying a BA (Hons) in Surface Design for Fashion and Interiors. Students were introduced to the latest trends in interior design, developments in tile manufacturing and given a personal insight into the CP Group's innovative production techniques before being invited to put forward a new tile design at the company's Head Office.

National Skills Academy partners with InstallerLive in Eco Challenge

InstallerLive is thrilled to announce that the National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies is now the official event partner for the show. Siamp launches designer plate collection

A new collection of designer push plates has been launched by Siamp UK.

The 15 new additions take the range to 27. Boasting a more fashion-led look than the standard range, they come in coloured glass and chrome with light and depth effects and can be can be used with Siamp UK's extensive range of cistern mounting frames.

Domestic and commercial customers can also create a bespoke plate by customising one of the standard designs with an image of their choice - a cutting template is supplied with the customisable plate.
