Mereway drivers gain First Aid training

* Mereway-Driver-First-Aider-sml.jpgMereway's transport team recently attended a Basic First Aid training course as part of each driver's personal training programme; their 'Certificate of professional competence in HGV driving', with all 17 team members successfully passing the qualification.

The aim of the course was to equip the drivers with basic first aid knowledge required to assist effectively should they be the first on the scene at an incident - for example a traffic accident or an accident at work.  The course teaches basic skills that can help save lives as the first few minutes before the emergency services arrive can make a real difference to someone in need of help, or indeed if the Mereway drivers themselves are injured.

"The course is aimed at knowing what to do in particular situations that could arise or just as important, what not to do if an emergency occurs," says Lionel Hipkiss, Mereway's Transport Manager.

All Mereway heavy goods vehicles now carry first aid kits and display a: 'First Aid Kit on board' sticker on their windscreens, to draw attention to the fact that should essential supplies be required in an emergency, they are available.

Proud to operate its own fleet with long term employed drivers, Mereway has 11 trucks across the Group, servicing all of the UK and Ireland.
