KBA announces newest KBB industry Hall of Fame member

The US National Kitchen & Bath Association has announced the 2011 inductee into the Kitchen & Bath Industry Hall of Fame, which honours individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the industry. The inductee, Surjit Kalsi, is Chairman of Capital Cooking Equipment and is considered one of the foremost experts in cooking range design and manufacturing.

Beginning his professional career in 1957, Surjit has applied his creativity and expertise as a design engineer and is credited with changing the face of the appliance industry. He is said to have introduced the concept of commercial quality ranges for residential use and developed the world's first all-stainless steel outdoor barbecue line. The list of his contributions also includes the invention of the world's first pyolytic self-cleaning oven, the low input natural gas pilot, the universal gas burner, retention flame burner and the first dual flow gas burner.

"Surjit Kalsi's advancements in appliance technology and design have paved the way for today's popular application of commercial grade ranges in residential kitchens," says 2011 NKBA President David Alderman, CMKBD. "His products have elevated home cooking to a new level."

Surjit is naturally delighted: "I am humbled and deeply honoured to receive the news that I am to be inducted into the 2011 Kitchen & Bath Industry Hall of Fame," he says. "It is a rare and uplifting feeling that what I did for survival is being recognised by the NKBA selection committee as 'changing the face of the appliance industry'. I am indebted to the committee."

Inductees into the Kitchen & Bath Industry Hall of Fame are selected by a standing programme committee from nominations made since the Hall of Fame's establishment in 1989. Including the 2011 inductee, the NKBA has selected 82 individuals, who receive national recognition. This year's inductee will be honoured on April 26th at industry show KBIS 2011 in Las Vegas.
