Burbidge chairman receives CBE
It was certainly time for celebrations at kitchen manufacturer, Burbidge this month as chairman, David Burbidge received a CBE for his services to cultural philanthropy in the West Midlands.
David, who is currently an OBE, has received the title on account of his unrelenting commitment to the region, particularly in Coventry where he continues to lead the bid for the city to become the UK City of Culture 2021.
Prior to this, David was chairman of Coventry's Belgrade Theatre until 2008 during which time he assisted in a management change and £14m capital project, as well as being a main board member for the Royal Shakespeare company where he oversaw the £112m transformation of its theatres.
David is also chairman of the Burbidge business, which is gearing up to celebrate its 150th anniversary next year, and has been instrumental in the continued success of the business over the years.
"I am incredibly honoured to receive a CBE for my services to cultural philanthropy in the West Midlands," he says.
"I have always had a strong interest in arts and culture and look forward to continuing to being involved with this sector."
Ben Burbidge, managing director of Burbidge and David's son, adds: "It is wonderful to see my father, our chairman, honoured in the Queen's birthday honours. He really has had a tremendous impact on both the local and wider area over the years and we're thrilled to see his contributions recognised in this way."
