Kitchen islands back to the future

* Kitchen-islands.jpgWilsonart UK is reporting increased sales of its Zenith ultra slimline work surface for use as kitchen islands. The trend for column-come table in the kitchen fell out of favour in recent years but is being championed once again by independent and national chain retailers.

"Our own research and experience highlights an increase in the specification of multi-purpose kitchen islands, something borne out by a recent Houzz report," says Ruby Kiernan, marketing communication manager for Wilsonart UK, part of the world's largest manufacturer of laminate surfaces.

"The many designs we received as part of the national Zenith design competition highlighted the trend and we are seeing an increasing number displayed in showrooms and at kitchen exhibitions.

"People are looking to stamp their own identity on their kitchens with a pivotal, elegant installation, where they can incorporate the mixed-material effect but also provide a multi-functional space to eat, work, socialise and chill out."

Zenith, with its solid black core, is adaptable enough to accommodate last minute thoughts such as curves, additional USB charging, LED lighting and even end panels and full cladding for the fully co-ordinated design appearance.
