The Kitchen Bathroom & Bedroom Specialists Association tells us it's been contacted by the Building Engineering Services Association regarding raising awareness of the so-called 'Aldous Bill'. The Bill seeks to amend the Construction Act to ensure retention monies are held in secure third-party deposit schemes, leading to a much better built environment and supply chain.
The KBSA says it is happy to add its name to the list of supporters of the Bill, which currently boasts 53 supporting bodies covering many different areas of the industry and over 100 MPs. Please find attached some items that may be of use:
Post-Carillion, the fair payments campaign now has an urgency alongside a moral obligation. The Bill had its first reading in Parliament on January 9th, as the Construction (Retention Deposit Schemes) Bill, and passed unopposed. Hopefully it can be a first step towards protecting SMEs and our wider industry.
Ahead of the Second Reading on April 27th, supporters can be as engaged with the campaign as they wish, such as by:
- Adding their name to the list of supporters
- Writing to their MP
- Helping to publicise the Bill in any way
- Offering a CEO/expert quote for media
- Writing a letter to the Minister (BESA can provide writing support or proof-reading upon request)
