Whirlpool UK Appliances donates appliances to NHS hospitals and charities
In an effort to support those working on the front line of the pandemic, Whirlpool UK donated appliances including washing machines, microwaves, dishwashers and refrigerators to several NHS hospitals across the UK.
Washing machines, which were donated to hospitals in Peterborough and several other counties in the East of England, were provided to ensure that staff treating patients affected with Covid-19 are able to wash their uniforms on-site, eliminating the need to take them home to be cleaned.
Nottingham hospital was provided with microwaves for its break room to ensure that staff can prepare hot meals. Dishwashers were also supplied to guarantee that their plates and utensils are cleaned to a high standard, as well as saving the staff time and effort. Whirlpool UK donated refrigerators and fridge freezers to hospitals in East and North Hertfordshire, St Helier's Acute Community Adult Mental Health Centre and London's University College Hospital, for staff to store their food. What's more, KitchenAid appliances, including a blender, were provided to a chef at Kingston Hospital, to prepare meals for NHS hospital workers.
In addition, Whirlpool UK has supported a number of non-profit organisations throughout the country, including London-based charities OneForty and You Donate, We Deliver. Both charities work to ensure that vulnerable people, and those working on the front line, have access to food. You Donate, We Deliver has been preparing and distributing over 1,800 meals each day to ten local hospitals since the emergence of Coronavirus in the UK. OneForty is a charity that offers free food to anyone in its community that is struggling to feed themselves during the pandemic. Both charities received donations of refrigerators from Whirlpool UK to store fresh ingredients, supporting them in increasing their reach in each of their local communities.
Further donations were made to Rhythms of Life, a London-based charity that provides food, clothes and toiletries to homeless people across the city, in addition to cooking and delivering meals to local hospital workers. The charity was provided with microwaves to aid the preparation of meals for those in need. What's more, after being nominated by a colleague at Whirlpool UK, a fridge, washing machine and tumble dryer were donated to Spurgeons, a charity that works to support vulnerable and disadvantaged children and families experiencing poverty, abuse and neglect.
"Covid-19 has demonstrated the bravery and commitment of NHS staff and charities operating on the front line of the pandemic, all of which are working tirelessly to support those whose lives have been affected,” says Ian Moverley, public affairs director, Whirlpool UK Appliances. “We are proud to have the opportunity to give back to the many services and organisations whose staff are risking their lives to care for vulnerable people, and we hope that our donations will help to support and strengthen the work being done in communities across the country."
