Newlyn by Mark Wilkinson OBE - launched this week
The latest collection of furniture for the kitchen, by Mark Wilkinson OBE, was launched in London this week. Named Newlyn, it has a classically modern 'look' that will fit all styles of home and be a perfect match for contemporary English lifestyles.
In this new furniture style Mark has introduced a fresh development in handle design, with a solid timber grip that he has set into the walnut facade - thus 'absorbing' the handle detail into the body of the design, in a modern interpretation of a classic characteristic of the Arts & Crafts movement.
In another 'first', for Newlyn, the designer is showing a kitchen style, which has a door that is fixed directly onto the cabinet, emphasising the modern feel of the design.
One of the other 'simple' details that contribute to the sophisticated look is the polished nickel 'flashline', which is laid into the door and drawers and a similarly polished strip adds to the cornice detail. The hinges and drawer runners are the latest self-closing technology from Blum.
To give the style a natural look, Mark has insisted that the random selection of timber is used by his cabinetmakers, in the door facades, to capture the unbridled beauty of the hardwood.
