BAL's new course marks 20 years of tiling training

* Natural-stone-tiling.jpgBuilding Adhesives Limited has marked its 20th anniversary of training professional tilers with the launch of a new course on tiling with natural stone. The one-day masterclass is aimed at experienced fixers needing more specialised knowledge and skills, or a refresher course, in this increasingly popular area. BAL training has benefited several thousand tilers, at all levels, since the first course was delivered at Stoke on Trent in 1992.

The course, like all BAL training, is available via the national network of BAL Training Centres: Stoke on Trent, Ipswich, Sutton, Bristol, Newcastle upon Tyne, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester. Courses are run throughout the year. Any one-day course costs just £30, which includes a buffet lunch, with a selection of appropriate products being provided free at the end of the training.

Ian Harrison - named as the UK's 'Tiler of the Year' for 2012 by The Tile Association - is one of the first to have tried the natural stone course. He commented on it via the TilerWorld forum, answering a query from a fellow tiler by posting: "It is very good, I would recommend it to you all." Another fixer in the same forum pointed out: "The courses I've attended gave you adhesive to a greater value than the course fee, so it didn't actually cost anything! At £30, I would have to say they were great value."

Other one-day courses during 2012 cover a wide range of topics, including movement joints and uncoupling, preparing wet room areas, underfloor heating systems and anhydrite screeds. BAL's five-day introductory course, Practical Ceramic Wall and Floor Tiling, remains popular and is available through the Stoke and Bristol Training Centres.

Many thousands of professional fixers have benefited from BAL training since the launch of the first course in 1992. BAL training has long been acknowledged as setting the industry's standards, receiving endorsements and commendations from such bodies as The Tile Association, the Construction Industry Training Board and the National Training Association. At the basic level, a broad range of innovative courses provide a solid grounding in practical and theoretical skills, with more advanced courses cover a variety of specialist areas.
