Nuaire wins award for its commitment to the green agenda

* nuaire.jpgCaerphilly-based Nuaire, a market leader in the manufacturing of energy efficient ventilation systems for homes and businesses, has won the Go-Green environmental award at the Institute of Welsh Affairs Business Awards.

Hosted at Cardiff City Hall, Nuaire was recognised at an elaborate ceremony for its wide-ranging and ongoing environmental strategy including its significant reductions in waste and energy use and the increased efficiency of its plant.

Now in their second year, the awards showcase the best of Welsh business recognising their successes and achievements, and the judges were particularly impressed with Nuaire's commitment to carbon and waste reduction at its plant.

Various measures have been implemented to address the company's green agenda, including the upgrade of its boiler systems, the introduction of daylight and motion sensor lighting and the installation of timers into the plant's own ventilation system.

In addition, during the last 12 months Nuaire has successfully achieved an 18% reduction in waste to landfill, recycled 93% of the 988 tonnes of waste produced and introduced smart metering to identify and remedy energy hotspots.

"We are delighted with our achievements to reduce waste and carbon emissions in the last 12 months, and this award is the perfect recognition for the efforts we have made," says Mark Huxtable, managing director at Nuaire.

"As a company creating energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly products, we take our own environmental strategy very seriously. Since being one of the first businesses in Wales to achieve the Carbon Trust standard and the Green Dragon level five accreditation we have continually been looking at ways to improve our environmental performance.

"Over the years, we have made changes that have not only reduced the carbon emissions at our plant but we have also implemented various energy efficiency measures at a company level, including measures to ensure that our staff are on board."

Nuaire has a dedicated quality, safety, health and environment team which operates the company's environmental management system that improves efficiency in its operations. The company has implemented various changes in the last year, which include requesting that suppliers deliver goods in recycled or reusable packaging where possible, establishing the Nuaire energy management team to encourage efficient working practises, and the formulation of a green transport plan for employee commuting.

"It's fantastic to see that the whole team has got behind our new environmental strategies and we hope that, through winning this award, our systems can be used as best-practice for other manufacturers," continues Mark. "What we have achieved demonstrates the positive impact that a green strategy can have for a company, both environmentally and also financially."
