Welcome to the

Choosing a new kitchen, bathroom, bedroom or appliance generally leaves the buyer on a high… but that can quickly subside when the issue of delivery has to be faced. Customers tend to be rather unforgiving when suppliers aren’t able to specify an exact time for delivery and this can soon turn to anger when a scheduled delivery is delayed for some reason or other. And with many of the UK’s roads so often now congested, I’ve often thought that I’d hate to be on the receiving end of a disgruntled customer’s aggression when he or she has taken time off work to wait in for the delivery of a new purchase that fails to arrive.

And of course it’s not just deliveries, but tradesmen too that seem to let us down. But they have to negotiate the same traffic jams as the rest of us and it’s not something they can do by public transport or on a motorcycle, with all their tools, is it?

I won’t say that this is all about to change, but news in today reveals that a package of measures put in place by the logistics sector for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games could, if adopted permanently, improve some of our traffic issues and bring environmental benefits too, while helping to make roads safer for cyclists and other vulnerable users. It includes the promise of more night-time deliveries.
