100% Design unveils its 2013 Kitchen & Bathroom Hall

* 100percent-Design-KBB-hub.jpg100% Design has further established itself as a September destination for the Kitchen & Bathroom industry, with brands including Dornbracht, Bulthaup, DuPont Corian, Mette and Keramag - and a seminal installation to explore design's role in the future of food production.

At the centre of the hall will be a custom-designed hub by British creative studio Mette, called The Farm Kitchen. Exploring a concept known as Building Integrated Agriculture, London-based design practice Architecture and Food (A&f) will be working with Mette on the design and integration of growing systems, showcasing the possibilities for domestic-scale food production. The Farm Kitchen will explore the integration of micro-agriculture within the daily experience of the kitchen. Incorporating the show's restaurant and a food-growing production line, the space will describe a journey from the cultivation of raw plants, to their preparation in the kitchen, and finally their consumption in an uplifting social space. All the food served can be grown on a domestic scale.

"In the West, food waste, obesity and poor nutrition underpin our contemporary relationship with food, while in developing economies food shortages and malnutrition remain a continual threat," argues Oscar Rodriguez, Architect and A&f founder. "Our research has pinpointed the key drivers of today's food paradigm and we believe that localised food production - particularly in urban environments - may address these issues in both developed and developing worlds alike."

Caroline Santos, creative director of Mette, expands on this, saying: "Growing and self-sustainability is undoubtedly a reality for the future of kitchen and interior design, but nothing exists in isolation. We envisage an approach where micro-agriculture co-exists alongside other strong design concepts; integrated seamlessly into our busy lifestyles and diverse tastes; enhancing, not replacing, our personal design preferences. We believe there is a need to balance the science of micro-agriculture with the principles of beautiful and clever design."

100% Design is delighted to announce the return of renowned German manufacturer, Dornbracht, as it premieres its game-changing Smart Water technology in the UK. Said to be years ahead of any similar product, the 2013 launch uses intuitive digital controls to adjust water flow and temperature separately, with precision to the degree and ml. Inspired by the new user expectations brought about by smart phone interfaces, the innovation brings with it a selection of digital products to individually customise the bathroom to the user's own specification and lifestyle.

Notably, newly launched shower system, Sensory Sky, creates complex choreographies of rain, fog, light and fragrance inspired by natural phenomena with high-quality essential oils. The show's first ever bathroom exhibitor, Dornbracht, first joined the show in 1999, becoming a longstanding fixture in the K&B hall.

100% Design will showcase brands at the forefront of design, including Bulthaup represented by its largest European dealer, Kitchen Architecture. High-end Italian kitchen specialist, Giacomo Rossetti Designs, will showcase its latest creations, while Keramag by Citterio will present its bathroom in collaboration between manufacturer Keramag Design and Italian furniture designer, Antonio Citterio. Bathrooms will also be well represented with new products from Mood by Porcelanosa, cutting edge radiators from Portuguese company Foursteel, and interior brand Miior premiering original and innovative bathroom mirrors and furniture.

The latest K&B materials will be presented by world leader in stone Antolini Luigi, solid surface innovator Dupont Corian, and Spanish tile company Apavisa. GIQ/Del Curto will launch a range of concrete veneer products, while Kolpa in collaboration with design studio Desnahemisfera will launch a unique bathroom concept in the Kerrock solid surface.

100% Design 2013 will take place from Wednesday 18th September - Saturday 21st September at Earls Court, London. Opening times are: Wed, Fri 10.00 - 19.00 (Trade) Thu 10.00 - 21.00 (Trade) Sat 10.00 - 18.00 (Public day). Children under 16 will not be admitted on trade days. Seminars are free to attend.
