Milestones and a makeover for Hettich UK
This has been a stand-out Summer for Hettich UK, with the 25th anniversary of its managing director and the kick-off on a £300,000 refurbishment of its Salford premises, both in the year in which its parent company marks its 125th anniversary.
Hettich UK managing director Tim Leedham joined Hettich in 1988 as technical advisor the year after Hettich UK was set up, and when the German fittings supplier was celebrating its 100th year in business. A graduate of Bradford University School of Management, Tim rose through Hettich UK's ranks and was appointed managing director in 2005.
The refurbishment, due to complete in November, includes an external face-lift, reconfigured warehouse and packing line plus the construction of a considerably-extended 125 sq m showroom and a new 100 sq m training academy with conference and workshop facilities.
The showroom will allow Hettich to show its ranges more comprehensively, while the training facility will give both manufacturers and installers the opportunity to train with dedicated equipment for applying Hettich fittings.
"In my time at Hettich, I have seen great strides in the quality and sophistication of fittings used by UK companies. This has been highly beneficial to Hettich, although we like to think we have played a part in these developments, too.
"The UK used to lag behind continental Europe in fittings, but that has changed. If anything we have become the pioneers. Certainly soft-close has taken off here unlike anywhere else.
"Business is tough, but the UK is a very important market for Hettich in which we still expect to grow."
