Axiom by Formica Group proud to support the Made in Britain campaign
Formica Group is proud to manufacture its popular and widely-used range of kitchen worktops, splashbacks and upstands at its bonding facility in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham and to this effect, Axiom by Formica Group has announced that from September 2013, all of its marketing literature will incorporate the 'Made in Britain' logo.
High Pressure Laminate (HPL) for commercial applications is also made at the Formica Group factory in North Shields.
"Formica Group is celebrating its 100 Year Anniversary in 2013 and we thought it was the perfect time to show how proud we are to still be making Axiom by Formica Group in Britain," reveals Stephanie McFarlane, Marketing Coordinator UK, Ireland & Central Europe. "Importantly, it also means British kitchen manufacturers choosing Axiom worktops in their designs can offer a complete 'Made in Britain' message for the customer."
Many kitchen manufacturers have 'Made in Britain' claims, however; although their kitchen cabinets are made locally, the worktops used are often not from UK-manufactured sources.
There has been a strong resurgence of the Made in Britain message following the successful 2012 London Olympic Games, which showcased stunning design and creativity. This, along with the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and Royal Wedding, as well as the leading influence Britain has gained in areas such as fashion and film-making, has translated into a celebration of creativity, craftsmanship and country.
Over 1000 manufacturers have signed up to use the logo, which is part of Stoves', a Prescot-based kitchen appliance manufacturer, 'Made in Britain' campaign initiative launched in 2011. It is calling for a standard Made in Britain marque to be applied to all products manufactured in the UK. The logo is available for use by all companies that manufacture or produce products or goods in the UK.
Due to the success of the initiative, Stoves has now formed a new independent, non-profit Made in Britain Committee, which will be run by a board of directors from UK manufacturers and organisations which support British trade & industry.
The 'Made in Britain' logo was commissioned by Stoves, part of the Glen Dimplex group, following a design competition which was won by Cynthia Lee, from Nottingham University.
Research by Stoves found that 48% of Brits were confused about which brands could still claim to be made in Britain, while 67% wanted an official seal of approval.
The survey of 1,000 people found that more than a third would buy British goods more often if it was easier to identify the country of origin.
The Formica Group factory at Newton Aycliffe currently employs 72 staff, and the facility was built in 1969.
Axiom by Formica Group worktops and accessories are Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified as low-emitting products, promoting a healthy indoor environment. Formica Group is also the first laminate manufacturer in the world to be awarded the Carbon Trust's Carbon Reduction Label, demonstrating the company's commitment to sustainability.
The Axiom range includes granite, wood, stone, plain and subtle patterned designs in a range of stunning colours, nine premium surface textures and two profiles.
All 60 decors in the Axiom range are available as worktops, breakfast bars and as matching upstands. Selected decors are also available as matching splashbacks and in addition, there are nine complementary splashbacks.
The Axiom worktop range carries the Carbon Trust's Carbon Reduction Label as well as the GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality and FSC(r) Chain of Custody certification.
