We have Mail: faulty appliances

One of our lovely PR contacts writes in response to last week's leader, in which I questioned some of the issues and consequences of manufacturers having to recall faulty appliances. The lady in question has asked to remain anonymous...

"Hi Jan,

Just read your editorial on dishwasher fires. We just replaced ours last weekend following several occasions when our fuses kept blowing and finally last Friday morning I could not reset them. I did the "unplugging everything and plugging things in one at a time" thing and traced it to the dishwasher.

I think I may have had a lucky escape, especially as friends of ours posted on Facebook a couple of days later, a picture of their burnt out dishwasher!

I actually had not been aware of a problem in this department, and would say that our dishwasher was probably about 10 years old. Thanks for the article - if nothing else I feel justified in buying a new one!"
