Laufen's stand was incredibly busy but Dawood Palekar kindly took some time to show us around the displays. There was a lot to see...
I was really taken with the red-dot award winning mimo collection, that may be compact by nature but which certainly packs a punch in the design stakes! Mimo's easy-going design refuses to be cramped by small bathroom layouts, instead featuring curved shapes and bold colours to make a real style statement. With compact washbasins, WCs and bidets, as well as a surprisingly small-sized bath, Mimo is the ideal solution for the smaller bathroom where every centimetre of foor and wallspace counts.
Measuring just 1400mm x 800mm, the bathtub sits at the centre of the collection and at a generous 580mm deep offers a relaxing bathing solution for even the tallest of people. Due to the compact nature of the bath, it fits neatly into particularly narrow or small bathrooms and is available with an optional whirl system, coloured underwater lighting and air massage turning it into a mini oasis.
Control is simple via touch-sensitive sensors which sit flush with the tub's edges making it extremely safe and scratchproof.
The bathtub is also ideal for showering, as its flat floor ensuring a slip-free area, while its high sides act as a natural splash barrier.
New to the Mimo collection is a symmetrical 650mm wide washbasin with central tap hole, complete with a colour co-ordinating waste cover. Available with a polished underside, the washbasin can also be combined with a ceramic pedestal or siphon cover in white, black or pink. The washbasin itself is available in white, white with Laufen Clean Coat for ultimate dirt resistance, white and black or white and pink.
Complete the compact look with a Mimo tap, which has been specially designed for Laufen by Basle architect and designer Jurg Heuberger. Featuring a modern styling, the taps range also has water-saving benefits built-in in the form of an Ecototal control cartridge to help save water and energy when taking a bath or shower.
John and I also liked the smooth contours and rounded designs, which were key elements of new Laufen pro collection. Reflecting the very latest trends in contemporary bathroom design, the collection has been extended to include new round washbasins and smoothly contoured WCs.
The collection includes many new products to offer the perfect sanitaryware and furniture solution for any style and size of bathroom. In a choice of sizes, a new drop-in washbasin features a rectangular outer shape which sits in stark contrast to the gently curved inner basin. The outer side of the basin can also be glazed, which is particularly aesthetically pleasing if the basin is embedded in transparent materials such as glass.
Also new is a small washbasin measuring just 480mm x 280mm, with a handy side shelf which can be sited on the left or right. Narrower washbasins in the Laufen pro range, in dimensions of 550mm x 380mm and 600mm x 380mm, are ideal for the compact bathroom.
Another new addition to the collection is the 520mm x 390mm x 150mm oval washbasin bowl, which is perfectly suited for installation close to the wall, ideal for co-ordinating with wall or floorstanding units. All Laufen pro washbasins are available in a choice of colours including white, white with Laufen Clean Coat for ultimate dirt resistance, biege, Manhattan, whisper blue and Pergamon.
Washbasins are not the only newcomers to the Laufen pro range, which has also been enhanced by the addition of a new wall-hung WC and bidet, both with reduced projection to save space in the smaller bathroom. Minus any joints or recesses in the ceramic, these models are extremely easy to keep clean and a closed WC fluhsing rim further increases hygiene.
Other new products include two new floorstanding WCs with increased seat heights and reduced depth, perfect for catering to the needs of an ageing population, while Laufen's award-winning pro liberty range has also been extended to include a second washbasin designed for easy wheelchair access.
Laufen pro sanitaryware can be complemented by a comprehensive range of furniture, including vanity units and tall cabinets to maximise on storage. This new furniture now incorporates an integrated handle which as well as adding to the timeless appeal also gives the user more space in front of the washstand, a feature more commonly seen at the top end of the market.
The scratch resistant, water and UV resistant, easy to clean furniture is available in a choice of designer colours including white, matt cappuccino and wenge, as well as 38 other colours upon request.
There was such a lot to see here that we'll be bringing you news of some of the other collections in future issues of KBZine.
