Ellis Furniture wins award for supporting youngsters
Popular designer and manufacturer of furniture, Ellis Furniture, has won an award for its work in supporting young people with career choices. Awarded by the Almondbury Aspiration Project from Huddersfield, the accolade recognises Ellis Furniture's ongoing contribution to helping local youngsters identify opportunities in furniture design and manufacturing.
The Almondbury Aspiration Project aims to raise awareness of post-16 opportunities and help the economic prospects of local young people by encouraging them to gain vital skills for their long-term prospects and to forge links with further education and businesses.
As part of the project a group from a local school spent a day at Ellis Furniture's headquarters learning all about manufacturing and the variety of career options available in the field.
Long standing Ellis employee David Hughes (pictured right) who joined the company as an apprentice more than 50 years ago attended the award ceremony and collected the award on behalf of Ellis Furniture.
Ellis Furniture director, Tom Ellis, comments: "Here at Ellis we are firm believers in supporting local youngsters and we have been running a successful apprenticeship scheme for well over 50 years. Many of our apprentices never leave Ellis and they carve a very successful career for themselves here.
"We are greatly honoured to have been invited to participate in the Almondbury Aspiration project and to have won an award for our contribution. It was a great pleasure to have the youngsters here for the day and I know they learned a lot about the potential opportunities available in their local area."
