Worthy winner for Modern Homes kitchen
A family in Warwickshire has been chosen as the winner of the Sapphire kitchen competition run by kitchen, bathroom and bedroom retailer Modern Homes to celebrate 45 years in business.
Owner, Tina Riley offered the £10,000 kitchen as a prize to a local family that was nominated as being worthy as a way of giving something back into the community.
The judging panel, which included Tina Riley, Chris Lillington, editor of the Leamington Courier and Graham Jones from Trend Interiors, voted for the Rees family because of their son Jordan and his love of cooking. Jordan is 10 years old and has learning difficulties because of a very rare brain condition as well as a rare eye condition that restricts his sight. He has to make frequent trips from his home to Birmingham Hospital to be treated.
Whilst Jordan cannot do many of the other things that other boys his age take for granted he does love to cook and spends many hours in the kitchen with his parents and his grandmother June. It was June who nominated the family and she is thrilled that they have been selected and very excited about the new kitchen.
"It is amazing that my son and his family have won this fantastic prize," says June. "It will make a huge difference to the quality of their life at home and provide many hours of pleasure for Jordan."
The Rees's new kitchen will be selected from the Trend Interiors collection, an exciting new range of kitchens that includes all styles, from contemporary high gloss to classically stylish hand painted shaker designs. Modern Homes has been closely involved with the manufacturer of Trend kitchens, providing quality kitchen designs and service for more than 25 years. Modern Homes will design and install the chosen kitchen; the prize also includes an oven, hob and extractor fan.
