They say a good marketing person can always turn a negative into a positive so top marks go to the Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialists Association’s CEO Graham Ball, who’s managed to find something good about your consumption of horsemeat (I say ‘your’ because I’ve been very careful about the meat products I’ve eaten since finding half an eyelid – with eyelashes – in some frozen cubed beef around 20 years ago…)! Clever Graham has seized upon the news that, as a result of the horsemeat scandal, we’re deserting supermarket meat departments in droves and returning once more to the trusty local butcher. He says this means that there are likely to be thousands more shoppers passing the doors of KBB industry showrooms all over the country – and he’s telling KBSA members that they should quickly put plans in place to make the most of this increased footfall! I think that’s a great idea and it puts me in mind of my first visit to San Francisco some years ago, where the many stores were trying to bring in extra business by holding pre-earthquake sales! Another place where there’s soon going to be lots of footfall is London’s ExCel, where the much awaited Ecobuild exhibition takes place next week, from Tuesday through Thursday. I sometimes despair at the damage we’re doing to our planet and everything in it. A day at Ecobuild is reassuring as it underlines just how much money, research and effort is going into sustainable products and those designed to conserve our valuable resources. Look out for my report in next week’s KBzine. Yours,
