OK so once again we haven’t had any snow to speak of in Epsom but the sun is shining and I’m feeling cheered by that and of course it’s Friday, so to get the weekend off to a good start I’m going share with you the opportunity of making over this rather ‘in your face’ bathroom! You know what it’s like when you check into a hotel for the first time… Is the bed going to be a decent size and will it have a cosy duvet, will the WiFi be working properly, is the lighting sufficiently bright to be able to see what you’re doing and will the hairdryer lead stretch from the socket to somewhere near the mirror so you can actually see while you style your hair … but most importantly – what’s the bathroom like? Well imagine peering around the bathroom door and seeing this! All thoughts of whether it’s been properly cleaned or not will be banished at the sight. And just imagine having to shower in there after a heavy night out! What were they thinking of when they put this lot together! This bathroom is just a small part of the 14 bedroomed Hotel Continental in Harwich, Essex which is being offered as the prize in a draw. Tickets cost £1000 each and the owners are hoping that the draw will take place 100 days from the start date on 1st May 2015. If you have £1,000 to spare, it’s almost worth buying a ticket, just for the chance of making over that bathroom if you happen to win… To enter the draw, you need to visit www.winahotel.co.uk – and if, like me, you want to see whether all the bathrooms are like the one in the picture, visit www.hotelcontinentalharwich.co.uk Yours,

Do it right and you can build the perfect wetroom writes Ian Pattison, Managing Director, Abacus Manufacturing Group "There is one thing that must rank before all others with any shower or wetroom installation - it must be leak free. Deciding how this is achieved should come at the earliest stage of planning and design. Of course, the waterproofing properties of any product cannot be considered in isolation; aesthetics and ergonomics are also key factors in the decision-making process, along with practical thoughts about how the work will be executed on site. Tradesmen and Screwfix visit treasury for talks on how to improve small business growth Late last month a group of Screwfix's 'Top Tradesmen' travelled to Number 11 to meet with Chancellor George Osborne to discuss how the current picture for UK tradesmen was looking and what else could be done to encourage further business growth across their sectors. As 2014's national finalists and winner of the annual search for 'Britain's Top Tradesmen' by Screwfix, the tradesmen were delighted to have the opportunity to share their thoughts on how to keep business booming. Bespoke screens designed by SWA members are gracing the best bathrooms Exploiting the strength and slim proportions only steel can offer, bespoke internal glazed partitions, screens and shower enclosures are increasingly being designed and manufactured by Steel Window Association members for high-end commercial and residential projects. Visually, steel has an innate solidity without being overpowering, a look no other material can really replicate due to the slenderness and robustness of the steel sections. Unlike the potentially chunky proportions required with timber or aluminium, a steel T-bar or glazing bar (a mere 25mm wide) is enough to ensure maximum strength while providing the greatest possible area for glass. iSP initiative targets independents The Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installers have moved into phase two of the innovative Installation Standards Partnership initiative (iSP), as it invites independent retailers to participate. Matrix - exciting new pantry display Matrix, the bespoke kitchen designer, is proud to unveil the recent installation of a stunning new kitchen display in the Knightsbridge showroom. The dramatic pantry display shows Graham Barnards' flair for design and knowledge of the latest finishes to the best effect. A little Kitchen Magic will help spread some cheer... It's the same every year; you take down the decorations, pack up the tree and the tinsel and lock away the wrapping paper. The festivities are over, and in comparison to the previous couple of months; the house looks somewhat lacklustre. One area of the home that this can affect most is the kitchen. All of the fancy ingredients have either been used, discarded, or shoved into the back of the cupboard until next year. The worktops are bare, the oven's empty and there are significantly fewer place settings at the table. But it doesn't have to be this way.
