Welcome to the
I had planned to mention each of them separately here, but in going through all the stories we've included this week, it's dawned on me that almost everything featured some design feature, energy and/or water saving device or other, so I'll just let you read about them yourself. It makes me proud to be part of an industry that is working so hard to design products that will help look after our planet. And of course we mustn't forget that these innovations will also save us money in the long run, in terms of lower energy and water bills and less need to buy compost for our gardens - as we'll be making our own. FIRA spurs Biomass Subsidies debate The Furniture Industry Research Association recently hosted a Biomass Summit at its Stevenage-based head office.
The event brought together key industry leaders to discuss how government subsidies encouraging power companies to burn wood are distorting the market for new timber, and forcing up prices for the manufacturing of furniture products. Giles Slater, Managing Director, has designed a clever semi-circular island end base unit with large full round end grain maple chopping block. The cupboard features a clever housing for a vegetable peelings bin that can be removed and taken to the compost in the garden and a beautifully curved knife rack. They are attached to the inside of each door respectively. There is further space below for additional chopping boards. Ideally it should be positioned between the range/hob and sink area and when closed becomes a very attractive feature unit that is uniquely functional. Popular Polish brand, Amica, tells us it is delighted to have set a new standard with the introduction of OptiGas - the innovative gas burning system it has developed, which optimises gas usage by increasing heating efficiency and lowering gas consumption by as much as 12%.
All of Amica's 50cm and 60cm freestanding cookers with gas hobs are now equipped with the OptiGas system, with burners designed for direct and precise contact between the crown of the flames and the bottom of a pan, heating the pan and not the room - burning and wasting less gas while cooking is unaffected. PJH duo take the ride of their lives in India for charity Two PJH Group board directors swapped their business suits for biking leathers in an endurance motorcycle charity challenge organised by Enduro India, to raise money for four important charities. Covering a gruelling 2,000 kilometres over 10 days in Southern India, riding from dawn till dusk on 350cc Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles, Andrew Yates (CEO, PJH Group and Globe Union Europe) and Steve Johnstone (Sales & Marketing Director, Globe Union) raised more than £8,000 for the four charities; Rainbow Trust Children's Charity; Save the Children, Centre for Wildlife Studies and Adventure Ashram.
